My Approach
My Therapy Training

I love learning and growing as a therapist. I am a 1993 Graduate of Bryn Mawr Graduate School of Social Work and my foundational clinical training 30 years ago was an immersive 3-year program in Gestalt Therapy. In the years since, I have pursued a variety of approaches and modalities to expand my repertoire. These include Humanistic, Attachment, Existential, and Systems Theory, which form the core of my approach, but I have completed training in Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Assertiveness Training, Grief Counseling, Mindfulness, Aging, EMDR, and a variety of trauma modalities. I am deeply committed to working from a Systemic, Trauma-Informed, Feminist, Anti-Racism and Anti-Oppression lens and do regular work to improve my cultural competence. Your treatment will be tailored to your individual needs and preferences as we collaborate and work toward your goals as a team.

A Better Life AND A Better Death

I have learned a lot in the 40,000 hours I've spent talking with a wide range of clients, but I believe you are the expert on you. I enjoy insight-oriented depth work from an existential, relational lens, but many people come to therapy because they are unhappy or feeling stuck. Together we will work to reduce your suffering, identify your strengths and supports, and help you develop better tools to navigate life's challenges. I believe aging can be a great opportunity for personal growth and I'd love to be your partner in creating a fuller, more peaceful life, whatever your circumstances. If you or a loved one are in the process of winding down your life due to terminal illness, I can provide counseling and emotional support before, during, and after death as you navigate the end of life process.

Our Partnership

My style is warm and engaging, supportive, curious, and directive when needed. I specialize in depth work with other therapists and helping professionals and I do well with individuals who have been in therapy before, but I also enjoy working with curious, motivated people who are new to therapy and personal growth work and are learning a new language for this process. I welcome a diverse range of clients from all walks of life, and I am committed to anti-racist, inclusive, and culturally competent practice. We will identify specific goals---issues or challenges you'd like to work toward changing, and we will go as quickly or slowly as you need to feel safe, challenged, and supported.

Optimal Aging

My approach to geriatric care consultation is holistic and client-centered. I draw on 3 decades of specialized training in gerontology and social work, combined with 17 years of direct practice in medical social work and 25 years in long term care communities. I can help you access a wide range of resources, benefits, and services, whatever your financial situation, to create a flexible, realistic plan that reflects your priorities, values, and goals.

I value client self-determination, autonomy, and dignity, and I will partner with you to create a practical, personalized care plan that maximizes independence, safety, and well-being. I believe optimal aging is both a journey and a destination, and I am honored to be your companion and guide.
